Exciting new visualisations have just been released, giving a first look at what passengers can expect once the multi-million-pound transformation of Darlington Station is complete.
Part of the £140m regeneration of the East Coast Main Line, this project is a stunning example of blending old with new. Inside the historic Victorian station, a fully accessible footbridge is being constructed, taking passengers seamlessly over the tracks to two brand-new platforms, a state-of-the-art concourse building, and a multi-storey car park.
The design team at AECOM, in collaboration with Network Rail, have created photo-realistic impressions that show how the new staircases, lifts and walkways will harmonise with the station’s Grade II listed architecture — respecting its heritage while futureproofing the space for modern rail travel.
