Looking Back at a Pivotal Moment at Darlington Station

One of the defining moments in the Darlington Station project was the precision lift of a prefabricated footbridge section using a 750-tonne Mammoet crane. A true milestone that perfectly summed up the scale, planning, and care required on this scheme.

The crane, assembled on site with the support of a 90-tonne crane, carefully lowered a prefabricated bridge section by Carver Engineering Services. Measuring up to 31 metres long and weighing over 30 tonnes, the section was manoeuvred through a precisely cut opening in the station’s historic Victorian roof at Darlington Station.
