Bridging Communities: The Role of Footbridges in the Tywi Valley Path
The Tywi Valley Path is an ambitious 16-mile active travel route linking Carmarthen to Llandeilo, designed to encourage walking, cycling, and sustainable travel.
At the heart of this project are its landmark footbridges, essential in connecting communities while protecting the valley’s natural landscape.
The recently installed 64m bridge at Nantgaredig, crossing the Afon Cothi, is one of the most striking examples, demonstrating the scale of engineering required to bring the project to life.
Each bridge has been carefully planned to blend modern design with functionality, minimising environmental impact while maximising accessibility. By providing safe crossings over challenging terrain, the bridges ensure the Tywi Valley Path is inclusive for families, commuters, and leisure users alike.
Once complete, the Tywi Valley Path will not only create a sustainable transport corridor but also stand as a testament to the value of infrastructure that enhances both connectivity and community wellbeing.
