One of the standout moments in our work at Darlington Station was the deployment of a 750-tonne Mammoet crane, assembled on-site using a 90-tonne support crane.
This engineering giant was used to lift prefabricated footbridge section measuring up to 31 metres long and weighing over 30 tonnes, through a carefully cut opening in the station’s Victorian roof.
This wasn’t just about raw lifting capacity, it was about combining modern infrastructure with heritage sensitivity. The successful lift marked a major milestone in the £140 million transformation of the station
